In honor of MLK day, and in the spirit of his own message of change, President-elect Obama is asking all of us to participate in a national day of service on Monday, January 19th.
The official sight- www.usaservice.org - will find you all kinds of events right in your neighborhood. While browsing the sight earlier, I found one opportunity that sounded particularly appealing to me- volunteering at the Glendale PATH organization. Imagine my surprise when I went to sign up, only to be told that the event was full! While I was slightly miffed I couldn't go, how awesome is it that people are actually volunteering!
In lieu of feeding the homeless, I signed up for a clean-up group that will be working Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake. If that's not your cup of tea, take a moment to check out the events in your area. Barack Obama can only do so much by himself. It's time we take back this country.
