If you've been following the news, you've seen the dramatic videos and tragic news out of Gaza following the Israeli air strikes that started last week.
I find it's too easy to remove yourself from these conflicts going on in other parts of the world. I've never been to Gaza, I don't know anyone there, therefore the news doesn't affect me.
I'm 24, and I've seen a lot of death, tragedy, and disaster happen around the globe- from my television screen. I have never had to run for my life, and I hope I never will. But I wanted to establish a more personal connection to these events. I want to attempt to understand what life is like for the rest of the world.
At the top of every blog hosted by Blogspot, there is a link you can follow to go to the next random blog in their network. Today I clicked through a few of these- and stumbled upon one called A Mother From Gaza.
This woman's posts went from "look at the cute little piece of art my son made" to "I wonder if my parents are alive" in a month. Powerful stuff.

I have just read the first few posts and already crying. You are right - it is all too easy to think these are just far away people who are used to this. I cannot even imagine living in a hell like this. I'm praying, literally, that Obama can make it stop, but he cannot do anything for another 3 weeks. I'm sure Cheney gave the green light for Israel to do this right now.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. Very true.
ReplyDeletenot to start up too much, but if the united states was being attacked by rockets that were killing innocent americans, would we just sit back and let it happen? i don't think so. Hamas is a terrorist organization, that may have been elected, but still is a group of terrorists that will stop at nothing to destroy jews and israel. Israel has a right to defend itself. It is a tiny pillar of democracy surrounded by crazy terrorists, suicide bombers, and religious fanatics.
ReplyDeleteand to equate israel with cheney is disgusting.
