A Valentine from Obama

2.16.2009 1
My iTunes has been diligently downloading President Obama's weekly addresses over the last four weeks. I just spent the last 20 minutes catching up.

Here, a favorite quote from the Valentine's Day edition.

"This morning I'm reminded of words President Kennedy spoke in another time of uncertainty. 'Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. So not pray for tasks equal to your powers, but pray for powers equal to your tasks.' America, we will prove equal to this task. It will take time, and it will take effort, but working together we will turn this crisis into opportunity, and emerge from our painful present into our brighter future. After weeks spent with the fundamentally decent men and women of this nation, I've never been more certain of that."

Man, Mr. O. You always sound so freaking presidential, and I like it. I just wish your A/V guys would get some better lighting and background for you. I know the economy is depressing, but you're our beacon of light! Let's look like it!

PS- I'm not sure I approve of your tie this week. Polka dots and TV cameras don't work so well together.

New Recession Obsession

Yes, I stole that phrase from the BF (his weekly column at the LAist, "Recession Obsession," can be found here).

But seriously- beautiful, original art at less than $50- including shipping? I'm addicted!

With V-day approaching, I wanted to get the BF a piece from a New Mexico gallery we had visited on a recent trip. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out the name of the gallery from L.A. So I went to Etsy in search of a similar style. Of course, I found exactly what I wanted.

Now, I'm not one to arbitrarily advertise on my blog, but I think this woman is amazing, and felt I should give credit where credit's due.

The top piece, "Para Mi Amor," was for the BF. The bottom, "La Corona de la Esperanza," is for me.

Still looking for that perfect (or slightly awkward?) Valentine's Day date? Why not treat your sweetie to a night of meditative lovin' in Mar Vista:

Valentine’s Day is typically a day of atonement for lousy boyfriends. It's a Get Out of The Dog House card, erasing 364 days of relationship-disinterest. Not a bad deal for the low cost of dinner at The Grove and a grocery store-bought floral arrangement.

This LAist scribe isn't that boyfriend. I’m an active participant in my relationship with my lovely girlfriend. This February 14th isn’t a Make Up Day. It’s an occasion to do something special with the woman I love.

We're going to tantric sex school

Happy Valentine's Day! Love, Metro

2.07.2009 3

It's things like this that make the silly romantic in me smile.

While driving through Downtown a few nights ago, I spotted this giant glowing heart on the side of a building. Not having a camera with me at the time, I found this picture on the Metro's website.

There's just something pretty damn cute about a big lit up heart shining through the rain.
