"Drunken Negro Cookies" for sale in NYC, while the RNC elects it's first black Chairman

1.30.2009

Freedom of speech, yes. But the Greenwich Village baker who recently started selling "Drunken Negro Heads" in his trendy cafe is probably wishing he could go back in time a week or two. Ted Kefalinos, owner of Lafayette French Pastry Bakery in New York, started selling the chocolate cookies on MLK day, "in honor of" President Barack Obama.

Kefalinos has since apologized (kind of), saying "it was an innocent design I created."
He told Fox News he had received numerous death threats since the story broke, and has started recording his phone calls at the request of the F.B.I.

In other news, the Republican National Committee has elected a new Chairman- former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele. Time magazine notes Steele was considered an outsider "because he's not an RNC member."

...Somehow this story reminds me of the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Republican party's VP choice. I'm just saying.

  1. the shocking thing about this bakery fool is that he clearly either doesn't think he did anything wrong or he just doesn't care... sobering, but in the end... fuck him, we won, and the mean-spirited racist status quo crowd will have to take the 'change' we all need whether they like it or not!

  2. I'm still shocked by this story! How could he truly think that this was an innocent design? It's horrible. Did you know that Kefalinos also offered "Dead Geese Bread" in his bakery after the U.S. Airways plane went down in the Hudson? Just plain insensitive...and ignorant...
