Ever wonder what your neighbors paychecks are like? How about when your apartment was built?
Check out L.A. Life. This fascinating little gem of a website will not only give you a bird's eye view of any address in Los Angeles County, it will give you crime stats, school stats, average age and income of your neighborhood, and the percentage of college degree holders, among other things.
Yes, it's a little weird, and I'm not sure I want to walk around my boyfriend's hood late at night anymore, but it's sort of fun, and definitely informative.
This is so fun!
ReplyDeletehow on earth do they know who's got a college degree?
ReplyDeleteNo idea. Census info? It's run by a real estate agent, so maybe MLS listings offer that kind of information.
ReplyDeleteBack when it seemed every company in the world still had money to burn, there was some cell phone company that popped up ... Helio, I think ... and it was marketing some function that enabled users and their friends to track each other using the GPS function on the phone, provided you and all your friends had Helio phones, of course. Know where your friends are at all times. Let your friends know where you are at all times. How cool? Not cool. That the function exists freaks me out, but that people would want anyone to know that much ... that's the part that I just don't get.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the college degree info probably comes from title insurance companies. They bought up tons of data during the housing boom and built these monster data bases.
ReplyDeleteLooks like my neighborhood is only coyotes.
